Higher fertility with TCM (European Journal for integrative Medicin, 3/2011) In a group of women treated with TCM who wished to have children, 66% achieved pregnancy and 41% gave birth. In the control group without TCM, only 39% of the women became pregnant and only 27% gave birth. This was despite the fact that the women in the TCM treatment group were older and had already tried more unsuccessful artificial inseminations than in the control group without TCM.
Help for rheumatism with real acupuncture (Congress of American College of Rheumatology, 11/2006) Rheumatic pain could be significantly alleviated with real acupuncture, sham acupuncture showed no improvement.
More babies through IVF plus Traditional Chinese Medicine (from: Medical Journal 3/2005) Several studies have shown an improvement in the sperm quality of men. In women, Chinese medicinal herbs plus acupuncture from a well-trained TCM doctor helped to improve hormone levels and thus support the natural ability to conceive. In 160 women with artificial insemination, 43% of the acupuncture group became pregnant, while only 25% of the non-acupuncture group did.
Real acupuncture helps with fibromyalgia (from: Medical Practice, 8/2005) Study results from the famous Mayo Clinic: Real acupuncture reduces pain after just 3 weeks. Sham acupuncture did not help.
Connoisseurs get more out of life (from: Economy Magazine for the General Practitioner, 8/2000) The Institute for Pleasure Research in Nuremberg has discovered that enjoyment and the ability to enjoy are of considerable importance for health. Dr Bihlmaier’s comment: holistic naturopathy has known this for a long time and also tries to guide patients towards healthy enjoyment and to “tailor” each therapy so that it fits like a good suit, not like a stiff corset!
“ötzi” treated with acupuncture from: Lancet, Vol. 354, pp. 1023-25) ötzi, the approximately 5300-year-old man from the Hauslabjoch in South Tyrol, has not only decorative tattoos but also skin markings that have been identified as acupuncture points by the German Academy of Acupuncture and a physiologist from the Prehistoric Museum of the City of Bolzano. This is the oldest evidence to date of acupuncture being used and supports the theory that the therapeutic effect on defined body points is one of the oldest healing methods.
Medicine from the Internet: dangerous and expensive! (from: German Medical Weekly, 2000,125.Jg.,Nr.10) Doctors from Philadelphia have analysed drug ordering websites. The result is alarming: prescription drugs can be ordered here without a direct personal diagnosis and examination. Even more dangerous, however, is the fact that the virtual medical consultations and the drugs are not only horrendously overpriced (around 40% more expensive!), but that there are often incorrect prescriptions of untested, defective and even contaminated (i.e. bacteria-contaminated) products!
Consumer research: Use of credit cards in the healthcare sector (from: Healthcare economics quality management 4, 1999) The GfK consumer research company conducted a representative survey on the payment behaviour of patients at doctors’ surgeries and hospitals. Although payment by credit card is not as common in the healthcare sector as in other industries, its use in this area is steadily increasing. According to GfK, the main reasons for the popularity of this instant and cashless payment method are the convenience of this payment method, the security and also the habit of being able to use an ec card for almost all purchases and payments for services. Healthcare facilities such as dentists and hospitals in particular, which offer cashless payment, score significantly better in patients’ assessments – they are associated with the modernity of the institution and good service.
Score one for acupuncture (from: Heilbronner Voice, 10 October 1997) The University of Freiburg tested 1424 patients with chronic headaches and back pain on behalf of the guild health insurance companies in Bergisch-Gladbach. All patients had been treated with conventional medicine for an average of 8 years without success. After completing the acupuncture treatment, 84.1% stated that the pain had either disappeared or improved.
Chinese herbal decoction proves effective for allergic rhinitis (hay fever) [Gou-Jun-Diao, in: Empirical Medicine 6/1994] In a study with 367 patients with chronic hay fever, a decoction of Chinese medicinal herbs achieved a strong improvement or cure in 294 people = 80.1%.
